Last weekend I had the pleasure of experiencing what some people are calling the future of shopping. Tired of shopping in badly lit, overcrowded stores that offer basically the same clothes as the store next door, while not yet able to afford a personal stylist, there’s another option for those who need a change in their shopping adventures. A select few stylists and sales agents are opening private salon inspired showrooms/boutiques that often personalized shopping experiences and unique clothing that are often offered at lower than retail prices.

In Montreal, Room Service Loft Boutique, which carries understated cool brands like Tara Jarmon, Wildfox, American Retro, Central Park West, and Velvet, is my current fave place to go to when I need some serious retail therapy. If I can’t make it during their regular Mon-Fri, 9-5 hours, owner Dominique will open after hours to suit my schedule, and I’m not even her best customer! With that kind of service and a dressing room as big as some New York apartments, I’m hooked for life. Oh, did I mention their cocktail hour shopping events? It really doesn’t get any better for this overworked and, feeling, under appreciated girl.

Is this the future of shopping? Probably not, because it’s not possible to sustain such a private and attentive shopping experience for the masses, but will it be an indulgent alternative to those of us who have started dreading fighting the crowds at the malls or huffing it all over town to visit the widely dispersed independent boutiques? Absolutely. We ladies need a break sometimes…
